Ben Gensch and Grant Culver of Parks Chevrolet support RACE Charities. RACE stands for the acronym of Raising Awareness for Cancer Early-on. This charity was founded by Ben's sister, Glory Gensch, who recently passed away from cancer. Ben, Grant, and other family friends help bring awareness for detecting cancer at early stages particularly in young adults.
Ben and Grant took to the lake water, bike pavement, and running turf as RACE Charities tri-athletes in the 2008 Tempe SOMA Triathlon on October 26th in Tempe, AZ. They both completed the triathlon in under 2:49 and finished in the top 100 out of 400 athletes. Congrats to both athletes as 8 months of hard work and endurance paid off for them in the hot Arizona sun.
Ben's swim was his strong suit and both athletes? posted very good and fairly even times on the bike course. However, in the end, Grant?s speed and endurance in the running portion overcame the 90 degree weather as he pulled ahead of the majority of the field in his division. Ben finished right behind him as both athletes were very pleased with their results from this 35 mile grueling race.
Ben, Grant and other Warriors will continue to train for RACE Charities throughout the year and are targeting the Seattle full marathon and Kansas 1/2 ironman as definite 2009 competitive events. Stay tuned for the Half Ironman that is June 15, 2009 in Lawrence Ks. Ben and Grant will be there in full force and expecting to finish the race in the top 10%.
